چکیده

The aim of the present work was to investigate the stress relaxation phenomena of the heel pad region under different loading conditions. A 31-year-old healthy female was enrolled in this study and her left foot underwent both MRI and experimental compression tests. Experimental results were compared with those obtained from finite element analysis performed on numerical 3D subject-specific heel pad model built on the basis of MRI. The calcaneal fat pad tissue was described with a visco-hyperelastic model, while a fiberreinforced hyperelastic model was formulated for the skin. The reliability and accuracy of the investigation performed was confirmed by comparing results obtained from experimental data and numerical analysis. Specifically, the mean absolute percentage error was found to be less than 1%. The evaluation of viscous phenomena can be useful for understanding the mechanical response during daily activities. Keywords—Compression test, heel pad mechanics, constitutive model, numerical model.

The heel fat pad: mechanical properties and clinical applications

The human heel pad is a highly specialised fibroadipose tissue that is hierarchically structured to dissipate the stress associated with weight–bearing activities. While the properties of the heel pad, as a whole, are believed to reflect those of the collagen– and elastin–rich septa which envelope adipocytes and confine their movement, the scientific literature provides little consensus on the ...

The time-dependent mechanical properties of the human heel pad in the context of locomotion.

Previous measurements of the mechanical properties of the heel pad, especially of the energy loss during a cycle of compressive loading and unloading, have given contrasting values according to whether the investigators used isolated single impacts (e.g. pendulum tests; energy loss approximately 48%) or continuous oscillations (energy loss approximately 30%). To investigate this discrepancy, re...

Distinct element modelling of the mechanical behaviour of intact rocks using voronoi tessellation model

This paper aims to study the mechanical behaviour and failure mechanism of intact rocks under different loading conditions using the grain based model implemented in the universal distinct element code (UDEC). The grain based numerical model is a powerful tool to investigate complicated micro-structural mechanical behaviour of rocks. In the UDEC grain based model, the intact material is simulat...

Mechanical properties of the human heel pad: a comparison between populations.

The purpose of this study was to compare the heel pad mechanical properties of runners, who repetitively load the heel pad during training, with cyclists who do not load their heel pads during training. Ten competitive long distance runners and 10 competitive cyclists volunteered for this study. The thickness of the unloaded heel pad was measured using realtime B-mode ultrasonography. A heel pa...

Using Rubber Pad Forming Process for Local Compression in Assembling of Vehicle Structure Tubes

Nowadays, tube bonding in vehicles structure is noticeably considered by many researches. In this paper, local tube compression process by a rubber ring has been studied. Firstly, simulation of the process was performed by FEM. Then, experimental test has been carried out to validate the numerical results. Numerical and experimental results were compared showing a good agreement. In the second ...
